I know for some this is nothing more than a boring reminder but in my line of work yearly re-briefings are always a good thing.

These pumpkins MUST be secured properly in transport. A 500 pound pumpkin traveling in the back of a truck that suddenly comes to an abrupt stop is nothing more than a quick way to a crushing death.

Please when you load these beasts up make sure your load is centered and strap them in tightly. A couple bungee cords here and there wont do the trick. Spend the money for a good set of tie down straps and block and brace them in.

I agree John 100%. Couple years ago I learned my lesson,I had a chain break on me at a link a couple years ago that I never checked, thinking nothing could ever break a chain, yea right!. If you have chains rated for 6000lbs,more or less, you still need to check them cause they will break. Check them good, link by link. If I would have looked at the chain that broke on me a little better I would have seen where the chain at one time was heated and cooled down many times. Chains like these over a period of time will break under hardly any pressure at all. Dont take anything for granted, even if you think your pumpkin isn't that big, check everything before loading and unloading your pumpkin.
Great post John!

I will definently take the advice. Out of curiousity has this ever happened before where someone has either had damage done to them or their vehicle from a roll away pumpkin?

I always cover my pumpkin with my lifting tarp and then secure that with quality straps, side to side and front to back all the way around, for transporting.
