1270 Skinner'09 (1385 x 1161 Rodonis)

Had to post this about Todd Skinners pumpkin that was weighed yesterday evening, and ohhhhh what a heavy pumpkin at that!
Today Todd Skinner had a Charity from the Cleveland Clinic ''for kids'' pick up his 1060 lb Ott pumpkin.. When the guys from the Cleveland Clinic came to pick the pumpkin up yesterday Todd decided at the last minute to put it on his in line scales to get a quick weight of it. ''which are dead on with Barnesvilles scales''.
But when weighing his pumpkin and by his surprise the scales read 1270 lbs!! Todd was sick!,,, hell I was sick when he told me, Todd was really sick about not getting it a official'' weight for the most part. He could have easily finished 2nd at Barnesville with that 1270 pumpkin instead of 5th with his 1186lber, but had no idea in 1000 years that it would go that heavy of 210 lbs.
Todd said if he would have known that he would have definitely taken that pumpkin to Barnesville with out question. But who expects a pumpkin that size to go that heavy??, I know he didnt,, and I know I dont,,,, but for now on I will I do know that and Im sure Todd will also,,lol!!
Todd said he knew it was heavy but had no idea that it was going to be that heavy,,lol!!(really not funny Todd,,lol) But his Wife told Todd, which he agreed 100% ,that at least it was for a good cause, a Charity for Kids.
Another great thing about it is the people running the charity agreed to send the seeds back!!,,,WHEWWWW!!,,is what I told Todd,,,lmao!! Lets just hope there is alot of seeds!

But I wanted to congratulate Todd on a PB (well, its his PB untill he takes his other pumpkin to canfield this Saturday,,lol, ain't that right Todd?,,lol)

I will post pics of Todds Pumpkin in the Photo gallery and the in line scales that shows the weight,, and also find out the Charity he donated his pumpkin to,( I forgot exactly what charity it is for kids, but will find out)

I also want to give Christy more hope for her 1385 Jutras Pumpkin which is already taping BIG,, how much would your pumpkin be weighing if your pumpkin goes 210 lbs heavy by your OTT measurement Christy? huh Christy?,,,,,,LOL!!

And Shaz,, how much would your pumpkin be weighing if yours went this heavy to your OTT huh?,,lol,,,

Hold on to your pants guys/gals,,, it can happen easy!,,lol

This Pumpkin has ne excited ,,lol,, and I got to add something to this,,lol

I think this is the kind of genetic pumpkins we need to break that 2000lb mark. One that isn't to big OTT like a big thin Balloon for gravity to play a big part of it not making it to the end of a season. They need to be small enough, yet very thick enough to support all that weight is my thinking? I really think the more compact and heavier the pumpkin is, the better your chances of holding a 2000lb pumpkin together, dont you?
Here in the past couple years I have been starting to see smaller pumpkins in the 900 to 1000 OTT range starting to go WAY heavier then they was weighing 2 or 3 years ago.

I'm betting in the next few years(if not this year) we will see that 2000lb pumpkin sooner then everyone thinks. The genetics keep getting better and better for thick and heavy pumpkins.

Vince, Today its sitting somewhere in Cleveland in front of a children's Hospital I think. He made the arrangements with that charity long before that pumpkin was grown to be picked up last day of the Barnesville pumpkin fest, it just so happened that the littlest pumpkin he thought he was giving to them wasn't his littlest pumpkin after all,,lol.

He said if he would have had another pumpkin he would have gave it to them instead of that one, but thats the only one he had left besides his bigger one hes taking to Canfield this saturday. It was to late to tell them no after the drove down 4 hrs to get it. So he was stuck between a rock and a hard place, he promised them a pumpkin and gave em a heavy one at that,,lol. And If im not mistaken,, I think that pumpkin is to be carved in Cleveland somewhere?. Id love to see the inside of that pumpkin though Vince, I know there is no air space at all in that cavity,,lol

I would grow it! Put me on your list! ;-)

I think those round ones that have no internal cracks go heavy for their size.

way to get me dreaming boz........i love it.....1500...is it possible? but reality checker, george j.s 1385 went 11 percent light. ya never know what they are doing til they hit the scales. there is enough genetic variance in each pumpkin cross to figure percentages, but the actual depends on which genetics dominate. no offense to get ones hopes up, but 5% heavy is what the top 10 variance of 1385s in 2008 was. i play the percentages and hope to go maybe 1420 if they fall in place. but i do hope you are right brooks. i would expect 4.82 heavy on any 1385 and if you go heavier, it is all gravey at that point.

i meant well in that last post, but my drunken logic was pretzeled like a steely dan song. you get the gist. pretzel logic is polish common sense. there is enough chances at genetic variance in each cross that it is hard to predict what each pumpkin does based on heavy or light to a particular seed. percentages are a better indicator of what is to come is what i was trying to say. play texas hold em...if you chase straights or flushes...you will lose.

It matters not what other 1385 seeds are doing... it only matters what this one did, and the genetics that this one passed on to it's seeds! That is, we have one of the better 1385 seeds here. So we choose to plant the 1270.

It might not be genetics at all... it might be just a good grower. But are we discussing the merits of the 1385 or the 1270 here?

Sorry for the multiple postings, but I'd like to know what the pollinator did. Not OTHER 1161 Rodonis seeds, but THIS 1161 Rodonis, what did it do in the Skinner patch? If it also went heavy, we have something to look at.
