I've seen pics of pumpkins where both ends of the main were put into jugs of water after harvest. Do the pumpkins actually take in water this way, or does it prevent water from leaking out? If they do take in water, is this a legal technique to use after harvest? It seems to be an artificial way to increase weight a little. I'm thinking of doing this, but don't want to do this if it's unethical or illegal for weighoffs. I don't mean to imply any wrongdoing by the many that use this technique. I'm may be overly scrupulous(look it up if you need a definition....lol).

Doug, It's very legal. The main is taking in the water. As long as your not helping the pumpkin take it in your fine, like injecting it. Some don't take that much water and I have heard some drank almost the whole gallon in a day. It's just a little way of keeping as much weight on as possible. Your pumpkin probably wnat GAIN weight, hopefully it will just keep it from loseing much. More than likely you still will lose a couple of pounds.

Doug, if you do that it's highly illegal! You can get sentenced to life without parole. You'd have to write President Obama and ask for a pardon. Don't do it!

Doug, fill the jugs with mountain dew, looks better. And why do you need an extra pound or two? Must have a competitor? Good luck!

Pumpkins love orange GaterAid and maybe throw in a bottle of 5 Hour Energy.

Ha! Yeah the five hour energy! Why didn't I think of that. I should start marketing "5 pound boost" powder you add to the vine water for transport! Just imagine the profits! LOL

Alex, you're on to something. I just incorporated a new company so don't bother with the paperwork, you in? Half and half, after I take half.

If you know anyone working at a nuclear facility you may try to see if you can get a couple gallons of "heavy water". Every little bit helps.
