It may be way to late in the season for this question but here goes. I always prune the tendrals from all my plants. I've been told that it throws more energy into the vine rather then into useless tendrals. Can anyone shed some light on this? I've seen plenty of growers that don't even worry about them.

I keep them and hope they prevent a bit of wind damage. I personaly don't believe they take that much away from a fruit or a vine.

I've noticed that as the season goes on and the vine starts to wither that the tendrils tend to "mutate" and start to grow little vines, throw small female fruits and seem to do anything to keep on producing fruit. I tend to clip the tendrils off just to prevent this from happening.

Ken, if I did not trim off the tendril...it would be more difficult to bury the vines and encourage additional roots at those zones where roots will pop out.

If your are going to bury your vines....trim off the tendrils as you take off the tertiary vines too.

If you are burying vines when tertiarys show, you are burying too late.

Tendril spurs can sometimes prevent the vine from staying flopped the way you want, the tendrils can wrap around things you don't want them to, and create more havoc than they help.

In the early stages of vine, I let it have a few and even put 'corners' in that I use to pin the vine down, near it to let the vine grab on by itself. When I start getting some nodes rooted I start trimming the vineholds off. At this time of year the tendrils it can produce are very long and downright scary looking.... In general they are a trim item here.

We leave select tendrils for vine stability. The rest go with a pinch.
