I've got a pumpkin right now that had 2 deep ribs that are now rubbing against each other, about 8-10" worth, but has the potential for more...I remember some time ago someone talked about what they did to protect the fruit from rotting or other issues...Someone inserted something into this area...any help is greatly appreciated.

My 985 has been rubbing since like 200"...and BAD. It's going to finish easily over 1000...zero issues. Weekly spray of alcohol in the ribs.

At this point I'd keep it dry and go with it.

Dan, did Brooks decline, or was his card declined?

the deep ribs are not a worry unless theres a deep sag line/dill ring crossing its path,

the idea is to run the credit card through the rib everyday to keep them from touching ... no pressure against each other thus no split. An old trick from Hester or Mettler.

I'm not getting the credit card thing. I don't see how running the card through the rib is going to keep it from growing together. If you leave the card there during the season, wouldn't there be pressure of the ribs pushing against the card sooner than without the card. Forgive my ignorance.

you could also sprinkle some "monkey butt" powder in the crack
