Has anyone ever seen the festaval they have in Penn. where they launch pumpkins out of Home made cannons. They call it pumpkin chunkin. I'm wonedering how far has a huge atlantic giant been launched? And what are you folks gonna do with your pumpkins when the season is over? besides extract the seeds......

You'd need a special built full sized trebuchet... which is a pretty huge, massive, and expensive thing.

I contacted Second Amendment in early 2008, they would bring the three trailer 12 person crew down here for an exhibition for $15k which was pretty much at cost.

Those things cost to build and operate. The ammo they need is a rouge de entamphe (I may have misspelled) that is a very round solid fruit, and they need them to be in the 8-12 # range to fit the guns.

I'd love to go to a major chunkin' contest though.

Good post. Last year we blew up some smaller 100lb pumpkins with a few quarter sticks at my neighborhood harvest party. My crazy neighbor wants to fill a bigger one with propane gas and light it this year. Anyone have an idea what will blow these things to bits?

JeffL have you ever made an oxy acetylene bomb with a balloon..very powerful and loud. I used to hang out with a farmers son and we made quite a few . I bet if you cut a hole in the back of a pumpkin and inflated a ballon in the cavity with a mixture of one third acetylene and two third oxygen you will obliterate a pumpkin.( you need more oxygen than acetylene,otherwise you will just get a puff of black smoke )...The more I write about it the more I want to try it myself..LOL..we used rolled up toilet paper for a wick..
