Lets pretend for a sec that everyone is going to have the patch and the weather capable of growing a new WR next season. The down side is you only have room for one plant. What seed do you pick?

1385 Jutras. I've been growing mainly nice color producing seeds so far. The 1385 has been so impressive, I may give it a go next season. It can throw decent-colored fruits as well. It also seems to be good at producing a pumpkin that makes it to the end of the season so far.

The Holland 1289 its an aggresive grower and the plant is always healthy. I believe that this seed will be discovered in the next few years. Last year i planted it and i had a healthy strong fruit. I pkanted its seed this year for my jack o lanterns. I left then unattended and did no work to them. I still may get a fruit that weighs 300 lbs.

If this is a hypothetical question and I could actually plant whatever seed I wanted, then 1068 Wallace followed by 998 Pukos.

How bout the Warnock seed! Has anyone got any info on that family tree. Lol! All those seeds sound great and could produce a world record. We all have our favorites. If you look at the growers of those seed you'll notice they're really exact in their preparation and execution from prior to planting to harvest time.

They need to grow a AG in the White House front lawn. People would not know what to think. Oh but that would not be organic. I do not think the garden at the White House now is organic. I saw it the other day on labor day weekend. There was not a single bug, disease, or dead leaf on those vegetables. lol

Real new at this. Planted AG from local seed store. Beautiful 200#+ growing. Sure would like to try the 1385 next year.

Could be a new WR out of IL in the next couple of years. I'm hoping my 1385 is one of the best of the bunch.

Has there ever been a contest where participants grow seeds from the same pumpkin in order to determine who the really skilled growers are?

Great idea for a reality show! Take the past 10 world record holders and have a film crew document their every move(except for the top secret things)for a season. The only catch would be that they are only allowed 1 plant. If it aborts or dies or whatever, bye bye! I think it would be boring as hell to watch after the first season, but you can bet your ass I would tivo the whole first season to use for a reference/educational video!

Jeff,

There has. Informally, some growers have sponsored contests, but the impact is limited to those growers who participate. But the concept is flawed. Two seeds from the same pumpkin are different genetically. That's just a basic fact, even though we tend to think that they are the same.

While it's true that two seeds from the same pumpkin have a better chance at being similar that two seeds from different pumpkins... the more we stir this pot up, the more we go "cross-cross-cross-cross", well, they are ALL excellent seeds but there is nothing that makes them unique. Just one small case in point, I'm growing a seed this year that really ought to be orange, others have grown it and it's orange. Mine is white. Yes, that will happen... but I think it's happening more and more. You just can't predict what you will get because we're mixing it all up (myself included). Our instinct is to cross (and cross, and cross...)

I think the 1385 Jutras X 1207 Young and reverse crosses could be awesome.
