How do I go about calculating the percentage heavy? I've seen many seeds labeled at 9%, 22% heavy...I would like to calculate this for my pumpkin when the time is right.

If it weighed 993lbs and it was 7% heavy then divide 993 by 100. That would be 9.93lbs per percent. Multiply that by the 7% and it would be 69.51 lbs over the chart. That would put it taping at 923.49lbs. Im sure that there are other ways of going about it but thats one way. Rick

If a pumpkin tapes to an estimated 1000 pounds and actually weighs 1100 pounds, you take the actual weight minus the estimated weight (1100-1000=100) and that gives you the weight "over the chart." Take the "over the chart weight" and divide it by the estimated weight (100/1000=10%) and that calculate the "percent heavy."

(Actual weight - Estimated weight) divided by Estimated weight * 100 = = (+/-) % to the chart.

Good question....I always have trouble remembering the formula. I better write it down.

Thanks folks! This is very informative! Growing big pumpkins helps us keep those math skills fresh huh!
