is drapping a calcium soaked towel over your pumpkin still considered a good practice and if so is this the time of season to do that. also was wondering if it would be good or bad to use liquid calcium to fert the plant and soil aside from the towel method.

There is no data to support wraps on the fruit nor any good reason to not wrap. Calcium is one of the most needed elements in this endeavor. If the soil cannot supply enough Ca, then the minuscule amount transferred from towels won't save the day....but it probably does no harm.

If wrapping Ca towels prevents a split, adds a few pounds, or just keeps the impatient grower from doing something dumb it's all good.

This is the time of year, yes.

Scientifically, the only thing it will do is help with the shelf life after picking.

Andy is right. That much has been proven. Its a significant benefit all the same.
