Well guys it looks as if my year is pretty much over. My pumpkin growing on the 1279 Bartlow which was est. at around 650 Pounds is "going down". A sheet fell on it around in a recent storm and then the sun came out and cause a hugh spot right on the top. I put sulpur powder on it, sprayed with bleach, and also put a fan on it. Nothing helped, and the spot keeps getting bigger and bigger. So im in the process of weighing it. Thanks you goes out to everyone that helped me this year and the list is to long to mention. I hope to have alot of seed from it and everyone is welcome to them, lol, if anyone is interested in them just let me know. Thanks again everyone. Troop

Is the spot getting soft? If not, it may be O.K.

Sorry to hear that Chris. You were having a good year and your patch looked great!

Must have been a "sheet" of plywood or something to cause that damage....bummer!!

Let us know what it weighed.

That sucks Chris. I hope you at least get some good seeds out if to is totally gone. What was the cross? Its a bad way to start to get the patch ready for 2010 but getting a jumpstart isnt always a bad thing. If she aint gone yet keep riding it cant never tell she may hold til elkin. Best luck

Sorry to hear that. That's the second time I have read a post from you on a sheet causing damage to your fruit. What color sheet are you using? Any calcium applications to the pumpkin? Any chemicals on the sheet from past applications? I have used sheets over my pumpkins for a few seasons now and never had a problem, wet or dry. Just trying to figure out why that happened...

Hey thanks guys for the condolance's lol. I wasn't able to save it. North it was a red bed sheet, we had a heavy ran storm that knocked the sheet off one corner of the T-Post. So it touched the top of the fruit, then the sun came out STRONG I mean real strong for about 5 hours. The temp got up to 95 to 100 Degrees later in the day. I was at work and didn't catch it. By the time I got hope and remove the sheet it had burnt a place about the size of your fist. For a couple of days I doctored the spot and it seems to be geeting better. Then one day I came out and a RIP had formed on both sides of the spot. It probable weakened the area around the spot. And from there on it was all down hill. The rips kelpt getting deaper and deaper. Both I was able to get it to the scales. A friend of mine came over and helped me load it up and I must say the final weight did suprise me. I have the weight and pics on my diary thanks EVERYONE for your help and kindness all during the season. Guess I will sit on the sidelines and watch the playoffs in Topsfield and other big time spots.

I use a sheet right on my pumpkins and have had them on the fruit wet and dry in 105+ heat and never had a problem with a single fruit. Bad luck I guess,,

like a complete idiot, once i put a piece of rubber roofing on my pumpkin for shade purposes. later that day as my feet are getting burned on a rubber roof that i was working on, the realization set in that my pumpkin was probably on fire at the moment. when i got home i ran over, pulled of the rubber and saw a huge 1ft by 1ft burn in the skin. amazingly it healed and the scar was actually an almost identical mini africa!
