Elmira, N,Y,

I had a good one last night. I dont know if its ever been but it involved haveing two pumpkin in the same patch 30 feet apart and leting the mains meet in the middle and then cut the ends off each main one at a 45 degree angle faceing up and the other maine faceing down then put them together and useing that elastic garden tape, tape them together.

Has anything like this been done before? If so what was the out come?

I came up with the similar idea. I tried to approach graft 2 secondaries on my plant this year but the vines didn't take. I know grafting in the early stages of growth can take a little better but I think the growth is too fast that late in the season and the plants just don't like being tied down together. End to end grafting would be difficult as the vines would be forcing into each other causing great stress at the graft. Give it a try is all I can say. I tried with no taking so I've dropped the idea.

instead of grafting 2 plants together like that why not graft some of the culled vines together to get a longer vine quicker. Plant 2 plants, when they are starting to grow to a decent length, cut one plant up and graft the vines at the end of of the vines of the other plant. You get double the vine length early and a jump on the season.

I might try some grafting to see if this works.

A lil off topic...but if the original idea did work, how would you name the seeds that came from this criss cross? Peace, Wayne
PS...would certainly be a twisted sister!!! LOL
