This is only my second year growing but I sometimes have weird pumpkin dreams, or nightmares depending on the time of season. Pumpkins blowing, plants missing, winning first place, etc. I only grow 500 lb ones, you guys that grow the big ones must have some real whoppers.

Um nightmares or happy dreams. Winning weigh off, oh yeah! But ya gotta grow somethin bigger than 500 pounds for that this time of year. OH well there is always next year. Dreams of next season planning already. Lets see down to two plants instead of four, one will be world record stats! Hmmmmmm, oh yeah, nigtmares of vine borers, and foamy stumps, yuck! That goes with the territory. Checking outside the window in the middle of the night to make sure the deer dind't eat your patch over night! YUP! Been there and done that...

yes its true that 300 to 500 pound pumpkins are small in comparison to those 1,400-1,500 and 1,600 pound monsters you see every fall. remember this. those same growers who are strutting those monsters up to the scale? started out just like you.

If you get one onto and off the scale successfully, be proud whether it's 5# or 1700#! With the weather this year, getting a pumpkin to a weigh can be the hardest bit. We all can't get first, a jacket, a blazer... but do get your measure, tropy pics, and even a 300# on a trailer can create a parade down main street. Blowing one makes you remember what humble pie tastes like and cleaning up one makes you remember what an experience sunstewed pumpkin is! It wouldn't be a growing season without the dreams either. Grow'm and see y'all at the scales!

I've blown up a few and it's hard every single time. I can't imagine a huge one at the very late in season going down. That has got to be hard. I haven't been at it long enough to experience that yet. But I remember what a rotten pumpkin smells like, and that aint pretty either. Still hard to handle. And yes, a big pumpkin in the back of the truck is really great on weigh off day travellin down the road. I can only hope...
