I have a decent growing fruit. It wont break any records but its mine. I understand that a pumpkin that displays signs of cantaloping will usually go heavier anything special to watch out for and any advice on this is appreciated.

Cantalouping flesh usually signals the end of the growth phase so it would now be wise to control growth spurts to keep her from splitting.

you mean cantalouping on the outside, right guys?

so this means the end of growth stage?

its not uncommon for older fruit that is canteloping to also develop sap bubbles and tear drop like pieces of sticky sap. especially in the stem end of the fruit on the shoulders.
not to worry just spray occasionally with a mild disenfectent and coast into port.
(its still growing thats why shes a sappin)

Thanks Pap...The fruit is healthy and looks good with the exception of some small stem cracks around the stem area. Nothing to worry about the cracks are dried and a so minimal. I can tell that the fruit is slowing it's growth down and will soon be done. The powdery mildew is there and is hard to control. Another Question would be should I leave the infected leaves or should they be pruned right away. all attempts to save some of them are futile. Just a matter of time...

powdery mildew is not the worst thing that can happen but it is very easily prevented before it strikes. thats the reason i suggest you start a dialog with one of our clubs seasioned growers. it would have helped you greatly through out the season.why learn from your own mistakes when you can learn from others that have dealth with it before you?

mike oliver is one of our executive directors and lives in bristol ri, your home town.you could give him a call ? im sure hes in the book.

I certainly will look him up. I hope i don't upset him by calling. I used the seaweed and fish powder on the plant the entire year the damage is very little. I certainly will look Mike up and take better steps to be more involved. Maybe get one of Mikes seeds. Last year he had a huge bird bath! Lmao!
