I have two holes on opposite sides of the stem. I puffed some fungicide in there and luckily, had some grafting wax given to me by some old time gardener that wasn't gonna garden anymore and formed a real nice patch. Has this ever been successful, and will the pumpkin heal itself underneath. The only worrisome part is that I saw a little ant come put of the hole. With a flashlight,I didn't see any more and suprised since very few ants around. thanks pumpkin-eater...pete

it matters little what you pack a hole with. if its gonna make it it will. if not ? then it wont.
small stem and vine splits that sap or seem to be a concerm can be treated with a application of paste made of sulfur and water, grafting wax, bubble gum to for that matter. fans probably are more beneficial and dry up the sapping and any filler paste application.
the end result though is packing holes and splits makes us feel a lot better than what it actually does to help prevent deeper splits ,etc.
