I am curious what kind of blossom end thickness is found in pumpkins in which the blossom end was deep into the pumpkin. Example would be the deep indent found in pictures of the 1689. I would be interested in seeing cut-away photos of pumpkins exhibiting this trait. Were there any cut away photos of the 1689 done?

I have asked before, and I was told that it does not always mean they are thin. In some cases, even if concave, they are over 9" thick there.

Good question. I have 2 pumpkins from seed from Mr. Pukos. One has the deep blossom the other has one sticking out. I'm always worried that the deeper blossom will split.

My 1154.8 from last year (1566 x 1689) had a very deep in blossom that was very thick. It went into the pumpkin over 12 inches. I will see if I have a photo and post it.

Wow, how did you keep her together!? It appears to be very heavy above the deep blossom and a very wide pumpkin as well. It somewhat looks like there is an internal crack forming on the wall of the blossom, or maybe that was a ribline? Thanks for sharing. I wish there were more cut-aways posted more often.

I hope Bill can chime in on what the 1566 looked like inside, that blossom was nutty!

the split looks worse than it was still very thick even with the split. Bill told me not to worry to much about it because the 1566 just chugged along and it never was an issue. I kept watch on it and really did nothing special.

Best cut-away photo I ever saw was Matt D's Ct. state record 1353 fruit from last year. Look at his growers diary. http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=99835
