What is the easiest way to measure OTT on a wheel shaped pumpkin.
The fruit is tilted alittle towards the stem/vine and when measuring the widest part (side to side), the tape does not go over the highest part of the fruit.
any advice??
thanks

Good question. I think side to side in your case should measure the whole pumpkin. If tilted start at the top in the middle and follow that point down the middle to the ground. I have the same issues now. Anyway Pap left a post on how to measure wheels a few years ago. I'll look and post if I find it.

"heres how you measure a wheel ( pumpkin growing on its stem with blossom up in the air )like a giant bagel laying on the ground.
the circumferance is measured by taping around the entire outside circle of the wheel the side to side is measured by laying the tape across from left to right side of pumpkin (usually running the tape across the center near the blossom area) measure ground to ground the front to back is also measured in the same manner as the side to side basicly? you are measuring in the same manner as a regular giant"

I've got a wheel going, that's leaning quite a bit toward the blossom end. I'm not too concerned with measurements on it at this point...as measuring seems a little trickier on it. One thing I can say is it's going to be a large proportion of shoulder weight. Hopefully our wheels go way heavy because of this. I wasn't a fan of wheel shaped pumpkins, but it's growing on me ;-)

The easiest way might be the wrong way. ALWAYS measure like this:

If we learned nothing else last year, it is that the current charts are pretty darn accurate.
