There is no debating the positive benefits to burying secondaries with mycorrhizal inoculant. But we have 3 plants we never did.
When is the latest folks have buried & did the adventitious rooting continue even in Aug & Sep?

ok. I'll jump in. I grew the tertieries off the first two secondaries on both sides and terminated/buried them after they ran out of the patch. That was late July/ 1st wk of Aug. Myco was applied and they all are strong vines. Yes, the secondary vines became thicker too. It took them one week to reach the end of the patch.

Boy all the help Steve gives this website and only one reply so far. Well Steve I'll admit it I don't bury my vines. I also don't have a foaming stump, yellow vine disease or any of those other problems. And I'm pushing 850lbs day 48 on a 300 square foot plant. I use Bio Endo on the seedling and stump only. I say just let it ride! Jim

Thanks guys. It was way too hot so the final three still aren't buried.

I have another idea. When I have waited until the tap root is really dry (about 5-6 days) and then buried the vine, the root didn't grow. But, if I bury before the root is dry, it still grows. I found this out because I got busy and let a couple of secondaries grow to about 10ft before burying them. The roots close to the main were dry. I had to dig those vines up to reposition them later and found that they were still not rooted close to the main.

I think it depends on where the new growth is,,, If you are still growing vines that are in front or very close behind the pumpkin I think you could grow and bury almost all the way to the end. Also, I think the later your set happened - the longer it makes sense. i like to keep the two secondaries before and the the one after going as long as possible. When things start to really slow down with cooler weather and such. I terminate everything for one last push..
