Good question. Keep an eye on the blossom end and stem especially. These can be trouble spots when they stay wet. I had a pumpkin that rotted on the blossom end....which I attribute to a wet sheet. When I overhead water, I take the sheets off. They do get wet from rains of course. My advice is to look out for trouble spots. Two sheets for each pumpkin sounds like a good idea. I still use only one per pumpkin.

I never take mine off, I just make sure the sheet doesn't cover the stem.

We overhead water as well as get a lot of rain typically. We only take the sheets off to measure and take pictures once a week. We leave the stem open and constantly check both stem and blossom. The wet sheets not only keep them cool, they may keep the pumpkin skin more pliable! Sherry LaRue

NOT A GOOD IDEA....Here's why, two weeks ago I left my sheet on pumpkins after a rain. Everything was fine, then the sun came out. I didn't know it but the sheet had drupped and was touching the top of the pumpkin. When the sun came out it caused a spot. It has healed but there is a scar.

I'm no heavy hitter by any stretch but I have been using white sheets since 2004 and have never had any problems. I let them get wet every time I water, but I do water around noon so they dry out quickly.
