If this was your garden, would you cut the red portion off of the vine, making it sort of like a pitchfork?
The only difference is the closest secondaries are 2 nodes back on the main from the pumpkin. The 2 nodes back have been already cleared to allow the vine to rise. I am thinking I could reduce stem stress further by removing the last bit of main out past the pumpkin. There are only 3 leaves and root nodes growing from it as is.
If I should cut this, when? Wait until the fruit is larger, or as soon as possible?
I could also start by cutting off one leaf from it each day, then the root nodes, then later make a half cut near the pumpkin stem, then cut the rest the next day. Would that reduce shock?
