Right now.. I'm thinking Joliet,IL. or in the Mid-west. I will have a empty keg out there any day now for comparison.

Not willing to spill the beans yet. NOT RI though.
I believe the seed is exclusive to this patch...and is a cross between seeds from 2 world record pumpkins.
There may also be more than one "unknown sandbagger."
This pumpkin might be close enough to Iowa to make things interesting....haven't decided yet :) The problem for the competition is we have several big ones....for now....tick tock.

here's a hint as to where that "big" one may or may not still be growing,,,
http://bigpumpkins.com:80/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=73766
you gotta question all integrity when a "wannabe grower" is posting pics and measurements from other growers patches
maybe the time would be better spent trying to keep fruit together and actually get something sound to a weigh off
yes,,,it's MN
I have a hunch the orange fruit may reside in western WI. The weather has been near ideal there this year even though there has been some whining about "cold" these fellows have no idea what cold really is ;-)

So are you saying the pics are not from Dean's garden? Somebody else is taking pictures of his garden? Or he is taking pics of other peoples gardens? Very confusing.

sandbagging can be very confusing,,I agree
Dean is a serious grower,,why he allows others to play this silly game is beyond me.

He is MI6!
The open feilds in his diary are clearly match the fields behind SIS (MI6) Technical Security Department - Hanslope Park, United Kingdom‎.
http://www.fas.org/irp/world/uk/mi6/SIS_Hanslope_Park.jpg
His patch seems to be at the bottom left of the image.
Sandbaggers was a British sitcom about MI6, always unknown is the mato of MI6:
The green C has even been made an official part of SIS lore. It's in the service's crest. The C surrounds a brain symbolizing intelligence. The crest is accompanied by the motto semper occultus, or 'always unknown.'

Minnesota could have some huge ones this year. The weather has really warmed up here lately. There's some top notch growers in the state as well. I don't foresee any state records from my patch though.

I couldn't help but notice in the sandbagger's diary that in the second photo he posted of this pumpkin the houses in the back round appear to be much farther away than in the first photo, even though the pumpkin is at the same angle in each photo. Am I missing something?

Photoshop the houses are way further. I would find something to do in the patch than spend hours to change a photo. It is probally still a big pumpkin though.

when the weigh offs come around in late september and into october there are many growers whose entries would have won should the weigh off be held today.i have felt this pain many times through the years. unfortunately nothing is worth getting to excited about until the day you get it to the scales. a lot of world record size pumpkins never make it out of the patch every year. dream just a little if you got a contender but, dont go out and buy anything on speculation. pap

Yea, I remember there was a big fuss over one last year almost a month before it was weighed, but it ended up not even being close to what they said it would be. So, dont start crowing to early cause usally you end up putting your foot in your mouth, wait till she hits the scales is the best bet. Never fails for me though, everytime I say I might have a big one going I lose a stump,,,lol.

You know; a fast way to boost the end to end and side to side measurements on any pumpkin is to dig a nice trench around it. You can get huge gains in the estimated weight almost instantly. Thats what I do when I feel mine are growing too slowly.

I mesure over top of the shade/rain roof that I built over my pumpkin., that way you dont accidently scar the pumpkin with the tape and get a hell of a measrment to boot.. Right now my pumpkin is going close to 2800 lbs at 30 days old,,,should be a good one!
