I just took a look at those splits, and they don't seem bad to me as they are circumferencial splits rather than splits along the ribs. I have never seen splits like yours before, but now that your pics are up on the site maybe someone with more know how can advise?

not a good idea, please get the mud off of there. the only thing the mud will do is promote rot everytime it gets damp or wet.

I know this sounds odd, but I know a commercial veggie grower that patches splits on all sorts of veggies with mud. Its sort of a poltis...as it dries it seems to dry out the split. Any way I have seen it work at his place quite effectively on AG's. I personally don't do it or recommend it, but I have seen it work

Vince, I have had good luck painting daconil on small splits. Full strength from the bottle. The splits you have look like surface skin splits that shouldn't bother. The ones to worry about are the ones that go straight across the blossom. I hope it holds up until Pumpkinfest for you.

I got the one right across the blossom end like Iowegian said. Just ended my pumpkin season. And the fruit was only about 90 pounds. I thought it happened on big ones.
