Sorry to hear most of your fruit went down Sam. I agree with Rhonny. Yellow mustard grows in a few weeks and will be ready in fall. Make sure it doesn't go to seed though.

Purple top turnips or dwarf essex rape. They are cheap and you don't have to work them in the soil. Just broadcast on bare soil and first rain will get them growing.

Mustard doesn't like mycorrhizae. Where there is mustard the soil microbes that that help pumpkins thrive in are sparse.

Buckwheat or Nitro Alfalfa. Nitro Alfalfa could be left in over the winter and works best with a nurse crop of oats.
