I've heard about many NE growers who usd molasis as a foliar feed. I used it and think its used as a insecticide as well as adding some sugars to the plant does anyone know what the story is behind it.

From what I know molasses provides the sugars for good nematode growth. I have used it on my lawn and it works great. healthiest lawn ever. I also spray it on the pumpkins now too. As far as an insecticide I can"t say. I have European red ants in my yard and when I apply molasses they come flocking to it because of the sugar. They inturn kill and eat any other insects around so I guess this could be considered insecticide. They also seem to eat all the dead parts of leaves and don't touch the healthy parts. so even if they do sting like crazy I like having them around.

Ditto Shannon. There used to be a very active brix message list I belonged to. Elevating brix levels of many crops tends to increase insect resistance. Google it. There are even brix analyzers available though Ive never heard of a pumpkin grower taking it to that extreme.
Molasses is mostly used to increase biological activity in compost.
