NY I have in past years successfully grown pumpkins every summer. But this year it has been terrible ! I started like always at the end of frost..my plants grew so slow. I have now hardly any vines..some male flowers and no pumpkins in sight. By now I should of had some ! Is it just me this year or has anyone else had any problems due to our very cold summer this year? Thanks !!!!

All northeastern growers are suffering from the cool wet weather.
Are you growing Dill's Atlantic Giants?

It would be nice to hear what the growers in the Northeast are really doing and if anyone has anything big

All I can say is after going on the R.I. patch tour Sunday some of the giants in R.I. are not bothered by wet & cool growing conditions...

I must say that the lack of sun has slowed things. Just keep on doing what is needed in past years we didnt have the seed genetics like we haue now or the education about fertilizer of mico.

I like a variety of differant ones. I will not give up yet but we are definately running out of time up here in Northern NY..usually september it gets way to cool here.

It's been one of the coldest July's on record in these parts where I live, and can relate to your problems, but as others have said, you are not alone. Some know how to handle these extreme situations as they have had to deal with this more than, someone like me who is still a newbie in the growing of Giant Pumpkins. I am learning, and dealing with Mother Nature being tempermental this year. Doing what I can to avoid any problems ahead of time this year, something I learned last year, and vine maintenance. Now if the tempertures stay the way they are today, I can make up lost time, or at least some of it. Temps in the upper 80's and yep, more rain! I think Ma Nature figured out it was August in Rochester! LOL... Not much we can do about the weather, and weights are below numbers this time last yeawr. One can only hope for a continuned warm August and hopefully September. It's not over til it's over!
