Last night, instead of culling a good pumpkin on a secondary, I just cut the secondary off so it could keep growing slowly, and not drain anything off the main. It is a good genetic cross. Tonight I saw the cut vine dripping a lot, and the ground was quite wet. Will this stop on its own, or should I do something to stop the leak.

I had one leaking a lot last week after I accidentally put the knife to it. After a couple days it it dried up on it's own. I imagine you could bury the end and maybe stop it faster.

Burry the end and you open up the risk of fungus attack...

the vines and leaf stems hold a lot of water. to much it would seem at times . what you experienced is normal when cutting leaves or vines. be thankfull its not foaming at the base of the plant.

Thanks for the advice. I will try the caconil, if the rain stops this evening. Maybe if it rains too much the leak will prevent a blowout.

Wipe it dry with a paper towel then quickly drip hot wax from a candle on the cut part. Make the cut at a slight angle facing up so you can drip on the wax easier. It will slow way down or in most cases stop completely.

I've been using sulphur powder for years and it works great. It also mixes nicely into a paste with a little water added.

Iowegain, I like Larry's idea better, espically if its a a real big thick vine, or a main vine.
