Keep it dry & dust with sulfur or Captan. You might want to wrap the split with raffia or sisal twine to keep it from opening more.

thanks tremor, i put some captan on it, and have it covered so it doesn't get wet

These things often take care of themselves. As long as it is dry the vine just sort of scabs over and continues to function as it normally does. Often we run into problems when we try to do too much to fix things.

I wonder if the same technique I used for my Borer Surgery will work. I split it wide open 6 or more inches and all the way through in a spot. My vine is doing fine.
