Ok, im looking for a variety of pumpkin that can take the dry heat! I know there is a certain one but I dont know what one to use. Basically I want to grow pumpkins for halloween and have had luck growing them but the timing is far off for Oct. My kids love the patch and it would be nice to pick them for Halloween. Any suggestions?

I've been growing Triple Treat variety here in Fresno California which had three weeks in a row of 100+ every day. I know that doesn't beat South Arizona weather but it's in the same direction. Anyway Triple treat are not real big - mine were 4.0 - 5.4 pounds a piece. But they carve well and make good seeds, pies. And they grow really fast in the heat. You could definitely get mature fruit by Halloween if you start now. I didn't use any shade. If you want to grow Giants there is a grower from Phoenix that has a growers diary on this site.
