I'd say it's possible, but if the fruit is over 30 days old I think it might just close up shop and ripen.

I do know too much can cause the fruit to SPLIT...

i have been having this problem. ive been telling my self its my dirt and all the dam rain. out of three plants i have only got 2 fruit growing on the same plant the other 2 plants have either aborted or wouldnt grow even though it was pollinated. i dont get it ?

Too much water caused a split on my plant mid June... fwiw.
