Ok, so many of us have been at that point where it is getting down to crunch time, and we got a 4" space between two fruits, one further back is 4 lobed and 10ft, while the next is 5 lobe at 14ft. The 14ft 5 lober is also perpendicular to the vine almost. About perfect place in my patch as well.
I figured it was time to pick one or the other to go with, and the 5 lober was 7 days younger, and had just been pollinated on the 31st.
So, the other day I one day after pollinating the 14ft one, I thought, maybe it will not do as good if the one closer to the stump is already sucking nutrients, so I hastily culled the 4 lober.
Then it occurred to me, what if my 5 lobe pollination did not take?
Well, as of the last two days it has more than doubled in size.
That was a close one, I should have waited until it got going to culled the first.
Guess I got lucky. Time to go put down my landscape fabric and sand and her.

meant 4', not 4", that was a typo, meant 4 foot.
