I been talking with a few growers and it looks like it might be the right time to start a Club for growers in the South Central part of the U.S.. It could cover areas like New Mexico, Texas, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas or maybe a few other states. How many growers in these areas are interested in getting this Club off the ground and going? There will be a lot of work getting this Club started and trying to get new growers into not only growing giant pumpkins, but maybe also watermelons, cantaloupes and other veggies. Thomas S.W. Would you consider adding California to the mix? We have similar heat conditions here in the Central Valley of California. We are very different from Coastal and Northern California in that we are dry and over 100 for weeks at a time. I participated in a couple of threads regarding hot weather growing recently that list growers in hot climates.. http://www.bigpumpkins.com/MsgBoard/ViewThread.asp?b=14&p=307456 http://www.bigpumpkins.com/msgboard/ViewThread.asp?b=3&p=308143

I need to explain in better details that this new Club will be for ANY and ALL Growers everywhere. I just posted a short message about trying to get a new Club started for a lot of growers where there are not much options for us. There are a lot of clubs that the northern growers have access to but not much in the way for the southern part of the U.S. I myself have been a member of a few of the clubs up north at one time or another and will be again in the future. This new club does not want to exclude any growers, North, South, East, or West. The northern part of the U.S and up into Canada has some of the best growing conditions and experienced growers and that is why there are more growers with higher weights than what we can grow here in our parts of the country. I only wish we could do as well here and if we can get a club formed to connect more growers where the harder growing conditions are maybe we can open a line of communication sharing ideas and what has worked for growers so far to better our growing season. I want to stress that this club will WELCOME all growers no matter where and there is a lot that growers in the northern parts can do to help there southern friends in trying to get the best results. I need input from EVERYONE in trying to get this Club going. This is probably going to be one of the hardest Growers Clubs to get off the ground than any other so far. It will take a lot of growers getting involved, especially in the areas where they have the most problems getting higher weights. The problem us more southern growers have, has been what has made a lot of new growers not keep growing after 1 or 2 years, they are disappointed and they don't understand why they do not get the results like where you that have the better growing conditions. We have to adapt and make our conditions work for us and to do that we have to organise and figure out as a whole how and what we need to do to make it work.

If we can get this Club started maybe we can get more new growers interested and started into growing with having a group that they can relate with and that in turn will bring more attention into our area. This effort will have to be a we thing and not a me thing. We need everyone to post what their thoughts are to help out so, PLEASE, feel free to post your reply. Any Suggestions? As a last note these messages I have posted is to see how much support we can get and the actual mission statement of the newly formed club will be to INCLUDE ALL GROWERS EVERYWHERE not just those in the southern states because we want to be a part of all growers everywhere.

Pat right now we need to get the word out and let all the growers know and get them involved. Without enough growers to join it will be hard to get the club started.

OK I plan to enter my smaller pumpkin in the Tulsa State Fair. I plan to print some information on growing these and try to get more people around here interested in growing.
I will do what I can to spread the word.

Looks like there is not very many growers thinking about wanting to join or if you thinking about joining but wanting to wait until this winter, it would be better if you get involved now so that we can get started before the fall patch prep time to try to get more new growers into growing and give them time to get their soils prepared for next year also. If we can get this club going soon then when it comes weighoff times and people that go see the big ones weighed might also want to join and start growing from what they saw at the weighoffs. It will also give us a little time to start putting the word out through whatever resources we can and try to get new growers involved. So come on and lets get this show on the road, let us know who all wants to join the group to help get more growers involved. The sooner the better. So far we have Amigatec, endlesstrail, okie, Tom, Jon and me. Thomas

punisher you are more than welcome to be a part of it. The sad thing is that there does not seem to be enough interest to get it going so far.
