I'm looking for suggestions on where to buy hail netting and also ideas on how to build the structure for the hail netting. Ideally I'm looking for netting that has a 10-20% shade to it. I have a 35x30 space for two plants. Not sure yet if I'll put up netting for both plants.
For the design and materials for the structure to hold up the hail netting I'm kind of clueless on the best way to go about it. Any suggestions on design or materials would be greatly appreciated.

sorry to bust in on your question...but- yeah, what size pvc bends well? what's the length you'd need to leave enough room for this giant to grow under?

obc northwest for the shade creative shelters for the structure. pvc has too much movement in it. creative shelters sells the connectors, you need to supply the piping.

Hi James! If you can get a hold of Doc Liggett maybe you can get a good idea from him on his set up. I haven't seen his but heard its a pretty good hail protection set up, from what I have heard he has his hail protection set up on a reel , fast to put up in a hurry and easy to take down.
Im going to try and talk to him at one of the weigh offs this year and see how he has his set up, next year I will have hail protection up myself, there is just to much preparation and work to have in these plants and then lose them completely in a matter of seconds(as you already know). I think hail protection is over looked by alot of growers(including myself) and think it should be on the top of my list to growing pumpkins anymore, only down side about hail protection is cost,,lol, its not cheap to cover a big area like mine, but in the long run I think it will be worth it, plus save me some worry everytime I see dark clouds moving in,,lol. there is just wayyyyy to much work we do to just rely on lady luck for our plants for them not being destroyed, when it can be prevented for the most part.
