Hi Steve, We're second year growers here, and hope the rest of the CT growers are doing better than we are this year. Almost 2 straight months of rain/storms now. Last year we has store-bought generic AG seeds and really had a fun year. This season we were so excited to receive great seeds from some generous grower friends that we met. Seems like all of the efforts for this season will be for nothing. Now if we can just manage to get one fruit to the Durham Fair it will be a success! I guess the greatest seeds in the world don't mean anything if the weather does not cooperate. -Dan and Joanne.

So far up in the northern section of CT this storm has dropped only 1.5 inches. However, tonights rain is expected to push us over the ALL TIME record for rainfall in July set back in 1938.

This rain is hindering patch work, but it has given me time to do some diary updating, which is coming along slowly but surely.

Anybody having a terrible time with their flowers getting eaten from so many slugs? Any suggestions?

I am not in CT, but I resort to a few slug pellets just after I have polinated. I take the flower off after 2 days, the slugs can have it then!

Thanks Phil - The flowers aren't even getting to bloom. Things seem really far behind this year. Is there anything "non-chemical" I worry about my dog getting into it.

I'm glad everybody is OK Ed...God Bless everyone.
I like slug bait with metaldehyde but Sluggo works for some folks.

It's my first season with pumpkins and I was wondering where everyone is in the growing cycle? I seem to have an abundance of males and no real evidence of any pumpkins yet. Suggestions?

Should be pollinating Pumpkins in beginning of July. Today you should have pumpkins that are 33-50 days old. It has been a slow start for all of us in CT. Last years numbers were just flying out of the gate! My plant has just caught up and I think these plants will do that but now I am dealing with disease from the wet conditions and going on vacation for a week. I would just like to take 2 kins to weighoffs this year! I am at D42 and D38 and D30 as of today on my remaining fruits.
