At around what temperature should one consider covering a pumpkin up? Last year I waited until temperatures were a consistent 50 degrees and colder at night, this was in September of course. This year, night temps have been between 64-56. Should I consider getting the blankets ready?

Sounds pretty funny having a grower from Ohio complaining about lower temperatures the last week in July.

Yeah, we in the NW have to deal with night temps in the 40s and 50s all the time (well, maybe not this week, but usually we do). To answer the question, some of us out here never go one night without a blanket, from pollination 'til harvest. It is easy, cheap and can't hurt.

If the temps are likely to rise again then anything in the 40's is a concern. It isn't the cold...It's the rapid rise that causes splits.

Ohio has missed the summer this year. I have only gotten in my pool 2 times this year.
