Do you have some corn meal ? Not processed stuff ready for baking uses, but whole-kernel stuff that is cracked to expose interior core of the raw kernels. The company I work for (Soil Mender Products / soilmender.com) has a product that is this material, simple in concept and simple in use.....and effective at deterring several fungal maladies including powdery mildew. It is also a good soil amendment, sprinkled in dry, to deter fungal root problems and to also FEED the helpful microbiological activity below the surface.

About 2 cups in toe end of old nylon stocking and dunked repeartedly in bucket with 3 to 5 gallons of water imparts a dissolution of the corn kernels and milky clouding of the water. Soak-and-dunk for a while and pour that milky-white water into your pump-up sprayer....and foliar spray on tops and bottoms of leaves.

I have used it in my lawn too, by hand scattering over those unique areas of lawn that get dis-colored, funny-looking and appear "weak" every season. As you know, the predominance of lawn issues are FUNGAL, and corn meal feeds beneficial fungi whose populations are enhanced and who will defeat the presence of detrimental fungi (out of sight of you and I) which ARE those true culprits causing myriads of lawn imperfections and driving folks to purchase heaps of chemical fungicides that likewise can harm the biological balance in thatch and soil below.

Those areas of my lawn that traditionally look "funny" every season have been corrected quite nicely. Too simple, I know, but put "corn meal juice for powdery mildew control" or "corn meal for anti-fungal uses" into a google-search and see what you get !

Do not get this confused with corn GLUTEN meal which is a different (processed) substance. Timberline Gardens in Arvada has a wide line of our products....but they may not have this one called "Horticultural Corn Meal". Call them, and ask them to pursue it with their distrib

Ditto the 1 TBSP but adding an ounce of Stylet Oil will greatly improve the result.

Wiz,.....Yeah, I think I can be up there for the Patch Tour on the 8th. I recall seeing a notice recently and to say that things kick off at 10:00am at one club member's garden.....but, did you give an address of that place ? I'll check the RMGVG site again for all those details.

As for the raw corn meal and "juice" one can make....one has the in-soil benefit that comes from the raw cracked corn making such juice as water percs down through the soil profile and around plant roots. The quickly-made liquid for foliar application is basically working immediately. Addition of some compost tea or aerated vermi-compost tea is yet another boost to enhancing the foliar feed and foliar defense practice to ward off those powdery mildew symptoms no one wants to see. Spray in evening in twilight of sunset.

Chuck the "chemicals"....go organic.

The soil around my Potato patch was pre-treated with the corn meal, our soft rock phosphate, and another product called Yum Yum Mix. I have never in all my years had potato plants so large, leafy, green, flowered and productive......with not one insect problem or potato skin blemish.
