So my co-worker who planted a bizzilion field pumpkins for her mid-sept wedding is getting concerned because they are only 'egg' sized and not orange yet. I don't do field pumpkins. Should she be concerned in this time frame? Should she hit them with any ferts? Remove canopy by the fruit? Thanks.

They stay green growing and orange out at the end, nothing to worry about.

I thought you brought a field pumpkin to Stillwater last year?

Now that's funny I don't care who you are....and no mine wasn't much bigger!

You wait Chris! When I'm floating down the Missi this year with a cold brew, I'm NOT stopping to pick you up! Seriously, do you guys think she has enough time for some orange normal sized pumpkins for the mid-Sept wedding?

You wont be able to pick up Chris because the water patrol will be picking you up for drinking and an unlicensed watercraft!

Bob, my field pumpkins haven't even vined out yet.

Joe and another guy around here sell commercially. Those plants are just beginning to pollinate.

Depends what variety she has and what your weather does. I wouldn't be worried about it, but if she has a variety that takes an extraordinarily long time to mature (and most field pumpkins don't), then she might be concerned.

She shouldn't "worry" about it, as that technique has long been demonstrated to have little effect in making plants do what you want them to do.

Alex, it is totally legal to have a brew or two on the water while piloting a craft, although I'm not sure on the license requirements on said craft. If we have a regatta, I AM the water patrol baby! Hope I don't hook a pumpkin with my cat fish pole. Thanks all, I told her not to worry, but you know women, just want our advice to help her have a good weeding. Did I just type weeding? Talk about Freudian...

Ferts? Should she hit them with anything?

By the way Ash, you're reading this thread, about time you signed in and all because I'm not doing the typing for you next year when you grow REAL pumpkins! What types of punks did you get from the folks here?
