Its about day 11th or 15 since I pollinated my main fruits on the dam vine I have a circumf. of about 41. The plant is healthy and The fruit I must say is a spoiled brat. This fruit gets everything it needs I don't have a lot of space to plant therefore I try to do as much as possible in the way of pruning and using the right amount of fertilizer and Hydro sol from Joel Holland. I have a pretty big plant. My question ids When do these puppies really start to take off. I've heard of one grower that says he has a 400 lbs. fruit now. I'm not sure if he's lieing or not. I also understand that the weather here in New England sucks in plain English any advice. I planted the Pukos 1101 plant. And I'm starting to think that I just don't have the space to grow monsters and I should just be happy with the size it gets....

if 15th day not bad if 11th your doing really well. day 20 you will want around 70"cc. As for other growers ignore some, as they start really early and some are really good growers as well.

The old standard for a pumpkin at 20 days was 50" in circ.
Kenny, sounds like you need to stop sweating the small stuff and just let the thing grow. If, like you say, you are growing in a small area...then don't expect a miracle.
I visited a new grower recently that I gave a seedling to who was, like you dissapointed that thier pumpkin was not growing as fast as mine. Well, growing in spot with about 3 feet of soil, over the grass, the main vine and 2 small secondaries with the plant having a total of about 25 leaves....I asked them what they were expecting especially since they have seen the size of my plants/patch.

Kenny, If you have a decent-sized plant and keep it healthy, you could end up with a very nice sized pumpkin. If it's at day 15 I'd say it's doing fairly well. My first year growing, my pumpkin was 51" at day 20. It was pollinated late(July 20) and harvested in late Sept. It ended up being 615 lbs., and the summer was on the cool side that year. From day 20-40 these pumpkins can put on a lot of pounds. Good luck!

Thanks guys I really appreciate it. All the kind words and encouragement. I'd do anything for this hog. I've planted AG before and i've had decent results just as a show piece in the front of my parents house. I'd like to at least get it weighed at the Freriches farm weighoff. I dream of these things the entire year and I want to grow some world class Pumpkins. I know I could If I had the space. And thank you Pap. I certainly will take the asdvice that I've gotten from this board as well as Don Langavins Books.

My goal is to someday have a respectable pumpkin and contribute to the world class pumpkin reputation that R.I. has. I have the drive but just not the space however there is no excuse!
