Okay so much emphasis is put on pushing pumpkins but really the heart of many nutrient programs focuses on plant health.
Ive grown for almost 15 years and back in the day plant health well into sept seemed easy. Last year was my first year they shut down the 15th of aug.(Prob over watering) This year my goal is to keep a healthy plant well into sept so I can keep one growing. When should a guy trim some leaves and is it natural to loose some stump down.
Think the answer is yes but I often see some HH that have perfect green plants with no brown in late sept. HOW?

Many things can be done. Crop rotation will help the buildup of diseases. A good insect control program is important. I learned the hard way not to over water and to use a good fungicide program. When leaves start to get looking bad I try to trim them and get them out of the patch. I'm sure there are many other things the experts can tell you.

Here in Virginia the biggest late season problem we face is powdery mildew. We try to start hitting the fungicides hard mid August.

Hey T, I hope you and Todd are spraying for PM already as I have seen it in the area, just not in my patch! The MN fair isn't doing pumpkins this year so no need to cut for the fair, leave it on for the fall weighoff! :P
