my pumpkins are doing fantastic in the rain. i never thought they could grow with a 50/50 hydroponics /soil mixture.
after every storm i get the kubota out and pick up the edges of the patch. placing the soil back into the gardem. the heavy rains also help flush the foam out from around the bases.
those small runoff lakes are great for my remote control boats as well. wheeeeeee look at um go ron.
im sure glad we got those water tanks this year to. nothing beats a good soil drench. the only thing we are missing is a good drip irrigation system as well. that would have been the final insult.
i laugh rather then get upset. ya gots ta know your limitations.

With every rain storm I think, if I only had a 10,000 gallon tank buried. And I almost invested in a drip system this year. My tomatoes are down hill from the pumpkin patch and tomatoes look wonderful. What a year. Thanks Pap, you always find the sunshine. Croley Bend

My garden seems to drift after every strong storm and we have had alot of them. I think by the end of the year my patch will be in the woods.

How about the following ideas for next yr : Build 5 ft high raised beds with drainage tiles. Stairs can be built for access or just use ladders. To remove the pumpkin we can put ramps from the top into the pick-up and roll em down ! And if the water rises up to 5 ft we can build an Ark to transport the fruit !

Rain washes in all the good fertilizers I put out there, and helps the fungicide programs, bring it on. I haven't had to turn on the sprinklers or the timer all season. Horray. Now we're getting some much needed heat and humidity, plants gotta be lovin this. I feed em, it rains, I fungicide them, it rains again. Timing! Pumpkins are a bit behind last year and that is mostly due to me planting a week later...

I finished culling off a pumpkin today after carefully severing it for three days as to not harm the next fruit on the main vine. When I removed it from the patch it exploded in my hands. Rain today. Rain tomorrow. Most everyday. At least the hot weather is also coming around.
