My 275 Vanhook has a pumpkin that is at 61 circ, there is no stress in the vine, or the stem. Yet the top and sides have big sap balls on it?? Am I going to lose this pumpkin???

Our 985 Werner did that all last growing season and made it to the scales a very solid pumpkin. There was a brown ring around the base of the pumpkin on the mill fabric. It sounds like maybe you should back off any fertilizers you might be applying, but nothing else to do but watch it sap.

Some weep. If it's nearly clear colorless to lightly orange brown clear, then it's nothing to be majorly worried about.

Wipe it down with a towel moistened in a 20% bleach solution. Then watch & see. Is there any sign of external causes like birds pecking? If not then a growth spurt perhaps.

Steve, what about the same exact kind of sap coming out of the stump area? Its clear and sappy and doesnt have a smell, and looks exactly like the sap that comes out of a pumpkin like Cary is talking about.,, same type thing here?
I just noticed this today on a stump after this hard rain we been having the last couple days. Stump feels solid, and its not the typical white foamy stump that has a odor to it. Ive never seen this before, kinda weird.

Brooks, I had the same thing happen a couple weeks ago after a hard rain but mine was around the blossom. It did it for a couple days and have not seen anymore. Pumpkin is still solid and growing.
