It's completely amazing to see that his pumpkin is still growing after looking at those pictures. It will be interesting to see how far he makes it.

It's true, but we are still on life support. The pumpkin has grown 1 1/4 inches today but there is some clear, gel like oozing from spots on the pumpkin. I've been spraying some diluted bleach on the pumpkin and trying to keep it dry. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

i think the sapping is normal under the conditions that the hail caused.
keep the fruit as dry as possible and those sap spots should eventually dry up.
you will be amazed at the recovery power these freaks have. the plant should shoot up some new growth. hopefully the damage to the pumpkin will also survive.

I don't know if this will work for you with as much damage as you have. I have used krazy glue two years in a row when my pumpkin got fairly big cuts in it. Last year my dog scratched big slashes in the pumpkin. I coated the whole cut with a thin layer of krazy glue. PUmpkin stayed healthy for about two months after that. This year I made a real idiot move and when I was shovelling in some dirt next to the sand pad to correct a drainage problem I gouged the pumpkin about 3 inches long and half inch deep - a slice that big actually came off. I went straight in and got some krazy glue to coat the face of the cut. It's been over a month and pumpkin is healthy. Both times it scarred up nice and thin glue eventually peeled off.

Thanks for the comments and encouragement. I don't expect much and I don't plan on spending to much time with this plant but I figure if it has the heart to try then I'll give it what it needs. Rumor has it if I can get this pumpkin to the weigh-off I'm in the lead for ugliest pumpkin. More pics at www.denverpumpkins.com.

Bring'er here, we have the Brown Bag award to counter the Howard Dill. I'm building you that special award for if you show yourself at our weighoff Jamie.

May she rally and do you proud anyway.
