Hello all, How many of you are growing plants off of your pumpkins past seeds for the 2009 season? I decided to give a seed of my own a try this year for s*%@$ and giggles and to my surprise is doing better than my other plant. I pollinated the female using the 1015 Zoellner and am very impressed so far.

I am growing a plant from the 919 Wetzel 07 seed and as in your case it looks to be the best plant in the patch.

I am - they started faster than new seeds. But I am doing store bought seeds. Last year's fruit were also from store bought seeds. This year was from new batch of store bought.

Store bought seeds didn't do well. Grew a 75 pounder. Actually I was really happy with that at the time because I didn't know how big they could grow. That was my first year. I had no idea what I was doing. Didn't know about this website. Plant was bug-ridden mess.

My seed s horrible. I had one pumpkin on it growing alot and was a nice shape then in a period of a week it turned into a wheel and split. All the other pumpkins set on the plant look weird I cant figure out which pumpkin to leave on it.

I grew my 800 plant from last year and it split on me trying to gain over 40 pounds one day after cool days. I just cut it up and I am sure it would of weighed over 1100 pounds the walls were all at least 8 inches everywhere. It taped out at 1010 pounds.

I always grow at least one of my own. This year I chose my 583 from 2002 which produced a 601 and 715 for me on the same small plant in 2003. I also planted the 716 squash and 696 04. The 716 was broken off as a seedling in a mishap prior to transplanting, the 696 failed to germinate, and I broke the tip off the main vine on the 583 a couple weeks ago. I've trained a secondary to be the new main and will finally get a chance to pollinate one on it later this week. I have a couple set on secondaries but will probably cull those when I am certain I have a viable fruit on the main. It may be late, but there are 5 other pumpkin plants in the garden, so I'm not worried at this point about whether I'll have a competition pumpkin from it or not. I just want to see what it can do with only I fruit on the plant. One thing I can say is that my personal best pumpkin and squash have both come from my own seeds. I hope that will change this year.

Same here Hertz. Our 718.9 is at about 500 pounds now. Best plant and earliest set I ever had. This year's lineup include it, the 1521.5 werner, 1470 Wallace, 559 Liggett(it's doing almost as well), 1367 Rose, 1459 Sundstrom, 840.5 Gerchy, and 876.5 Gerchy. Two more months to go, so anything can happen.

I am growing one of my 150 seeds this year. I have two set on the plant now. As of Sunday one was the size of a basketball. I won't know until I get back home tonight whether or not it stayed on to become a keeper. It is a nice plant, but seems to attract the bugs. It is the only one being eatin.

Sounds like you have a good one going Gerch! keep er going bro. Just to change the subject for a second, and I hope you dont mind Joe, but I do have to comment about you . Every year you have had a set back or two that always keeps you at of the running, your a great grower that has always been persistent for many years, no matter what bad luck you have had, or what mother nature always seems to throw your way, you have always grown your pumpkins like there was no tomorrow even when your chips was down . I'm definitely routing for ya, and have been for the past few years now, you have been way over due to pop that monster like Doc has done year in and year out . Hope everything keeps going well for you .

I am growing my 402 (1093 Hunt x 1134 Landry). It is growing well. 600 sq ft on the plant so far and the pumpkin is 45 cc (111 ott) on day 16. Doing 6" increase in circumference for the last 3 days so may hit 70" by day 20. 10 pounds a day for the last 2 days...

You're too kind Brooks. Yup, every year it's something, and I've learned to accept the hobby for what it is. But even if I never pop that big one, I'll never forget the friends I've made and the whole experience. It's been a wonderful ride so far.
Now to keep that bad boy going for another three months.
