Subject: Punky is about to abort i'm afraid

After toiling and suffering, and evidence of yet another borer. Punky has nor grown since major,major MAJOR surgery late last night. I opted for the wide open approach to make certain there were no more left. It managed a half inch about 2 hours later but now she has stopped. I think this is the end. I'm heartbroken, I didn't want a Monster, I just wanted to make it to the end of the season.

Read the last part of paps comment in the 'pumpkin pacer chart' thread a few posts down. Unless you see signs of rot on the pumpkin, I would say its fine.

I had borers really bad my first year like you. Once you have them their pretty much in every node. Honestly I dont think the plant can handle any more and odds are their are like 20 more borers. My first year the plants were dead by august.I did get a 200 lb pumpkin though. Next year use merit.

Yup, live and learn. You gotta have the right arsenal against those. I believe they're #1 enemy...bacteria wilt #2 I guess everyone who grows these suffers paranoia most of the season.
