I have a female only 2 feet from the stump. Would this be too close to set or should I let it grow a little so the kids can be amazed. Then chop it off after a few days. Would it put stress on the vine? Slow growth? or any other issues?

Yes, thats too close! I'd cull it before it even opens, let the plant put all its energy into growing vines right now and not waste any energy/resources on fruits that we already know are going to get culled anyway. I'd try to set one the first week of August, whatever position it may be in, if you want to get a mature fruit before the end of the season.

Thanks I'll be slicing her off in the morning. Do I cover the cut with anything special?
