I dont know about anyone else , but have you ever noticed that once your pumpkin gets about 10 to 20 days old your secondaries and main slows down a great deal?,,, I was thinking about this when a pumpkin aborted on me at day 14 the other day, I still noticed my secondaries and main was still growing like crazy on that plant. Could this be another way to tell if a pumpkin has taken?,, From what I have seen in the past for the most part, I believe its another good way to tell if your pumpkin pollination has taken or not , look at vine growth past day 10 to 20, and if they are still growing like crazy you might want to keep your back ups to be on the safe side ,,,

what do you guys think on this, think this could be another way to tell if your pumpkin is a keeper or not?

Brooks, I was thinking the same thing. Before I set my fruit my secondaries where growing out of control. After the set took, they slowed to a craw.

My vines are still growing well, but my pumpkin growth has slowed to 2-2 1/2 inches per day. Brook,...when do pumpkins stop growing here in Ohio? Mine was planted sometime in the first two weeks of May. I'm thinking somewhere between May 10-15. It was just before mothers day.

September or October is when the stop growing. It has been cool lately that is why the growth has slown down.

Once a good fruit has set it releases growth control regulators that slow down the vine growth.

I hope your right Larry!,, I have one last set on a 1209 Kuhn with almost 1000 sq ft of plant behind it with nothing left in sight. Looks like its taken, but yet so did my other two pumpkins that aborted on me on this plant.(Way to much nirogen in this patch spot, (Tissue test).

But one thing I have noticed in the last 7 days is ALOT slower vine growth. If this one dont take, then this plant is toast with just lots of pretty green leaves and no pumpkins. lol

I hope she took Brooks. It would be a shame to have that much plant and no pumpkin. That 1209 Kuhn is an interesting seed.

Doug, I hear ya, lots of work into that plant to end up with nothing, but every year Im always ready for a set back somewhere, it always happens so I expect it somewhere along the lines,,lol. But so far it looks good, crossing my fingers on this one.

On one of my plants it is the opposite

The vines are growing like crazy but my main fruit has slowed down in growth
I'm just waiting for the deer to snip the vines off
