I have a problem. The Plant is huge. I'm growing a Pukos 1101 plant. I have finally pruned the plants and pollinated all of the pumpkins. I seem to have run into a problem. One of the pumpkins that I was getting ready to have as my final fruit has died. It was rotting from the bottom. I quickly culled the fruit and have decided to go with another fruit. I terminated the main vine and an eager to see this guy grow. I don't see much in the way of growth. I pollinated the fruit 3 days ago and the fruit is about the size of a base ball. It has stayed that size for a few days. Any help on this is appreciated....

3 days and the size of a baseball is great! Be careful when terminating all vines at once...you could be causing stress to your plant and create a foaming stump...all that water and no place to go...and it could blow up your small pumpkin. make sure it is dry under your early sets and keep them shaded....they will grow...they all can't be 40 inches around by day 10 like some peoples...mine were 5-8 inches smaller this year due to bad weather but thay are growing now...the first 10 days takes forever...

i had the same problem with one of my plants. the first fruit was pollinated at 10' and i was gonna save it but culled it after deciding it wasn't out far enough. it had been growing at a tremendous rate before culling. the next fruit i pollinated was my keeper and i noticed that it wasn't growing nearly as fast as my first one. its possible that you left your first fruit on too long and by culling it, the rest of the pumpkins went into a sort of plant shock, inhibiting maximum growth.... that's what i experienced

Relax!!...LOL We have had very cold nights here in the N.E. That itself is a very big factor to the slow growth. My pumpkin at 10 days was only 22 inches round. Don't worry hopefully if the nights warm up some and the days dry out a bit you will see fruit start to pick up. For a comparison last year at ten days my pumpkin only measured 18 inch's in cir and ended up at 1154.8 come weigh off. I have five growers in my area who have grown for many many years, we talk almost daily and all are in the same boat.

Thanks Pap, I'm certainly a new grower I grew a 400 lbs. pumpkin last year. I have a small patch if you would even consider it a Patch. I'm also a member of the sngpga...I signed up at Freriches Farm.I love the sport and dream of pumpkins year round. I have no space however I feel that if I had the space I could compete with some of the big dogs.
I checked the pumpkins and have seen that YES they are growing however the pumpkin itself is oozing some juices and I'm really upset at that. I sprayed the entire pumpkin wityh an anti-fungal spray and used a face cloth soaked in Cheleated Calcium. I wrapped the cloth around the small fruit and will let it soak for a few hours. I've heard that the fruit may absorb some of the calcium. Since Calcium moves slow in the plant I feel this will help if not I don't think it will hurt. What do you think.
