Bees are scares here and around the country. Scientists aen't sure what is causing it. Theories range from a virus to cell phone signals messing up their navigation to and from the hive.

I have all sorts, from little emeralds to big bumbles. Not lots, but there seems to be enough of them willing to do the job if I miss a female!

I have noticed the same thing here in Maine. My male flowers after two days will still have all the pollen left. This is the first time I have ever seen this.

Usually we see several overnighting in the flowers....They are just not there this year....have not had to battle once for a flower......At least we would have the squash beeZ.....

almost none here. My cherry trees, the neighbors 40ft tall whatever it is, and the garden are usually full of them. Especially the neighbors tree. It usually has literally thousands when it is in flower. shake a branch and you feel like you are about to be attacked. But this yr I can count on one hand the number of honeybees and on my fingers the number of bumbles I have seen.

A few bees here every day. Sometimes I see them in the flowers. I also see a few Big black bumbles every day either in the pumpkins or in the passion vine flowers we have. So far in two years of pumpkin growing I have yet to get a fruit set based on natural pollination though.

i have litteraly seen 3 honeybees all yr this yr. Something very bad is happening. 2 yrs ago you couldnt hardly walk outside in the garden for them, now , nothing.

Didn't see hardly any last year, this year Ive seen a little more, just not alot of em.
I remember back in the day when I was a kid you couldn't walk bare footed in the grass with out ending up pulling a few stingers out of your foot, that sure isn't the case anymore, your more likely to get bit by a poisonous snake then to get stung by a bee.

my thoughts on why bees are not very common these days is because farmers are killing them by early morning spraying in their big fields. This has gone on more and more now days. I see it happening all the time and when I remark to farmers about it they just don't care cause most of them don't have crops that are dependant on bees.

I have found at least a dozen little pumpkins the bees have given me. My bees here are still alive.

Pat, you aren't growing unless you find unwanted pregnancies during daily vine work :) I have less honeybees, but more other flying insects including different types of wild bees, a few bumbles, and there are plenty of hornets and yellow jackets around the main water hydrant (it leaks) after the mud and water.

this year was the first year in 3 or 4 I think that colony collapse diisorder was down. I think the fact that there are more beekeepers. Our local beekeeping club went from 80-300 people in under a year. Also people are keeping bee smarter. Not breeding for best honey production, but resistance to mites, and some even have super hygenic behaiver. some arn't treating for mites and using the "live or let die" method. Replace dead hives by taking bees from surviving hive.

This is way I don't like to use Sevin in the patch. I have tons of bees in the attic of the church across the street from me, and I don't want to hurt them.
