My one pumpkin that I have selected to be the big one seems to have stopped growing. I noticed that the stem at the base of the pumpkin doesn't look normal. Do I have stem rot?? Is there anything I can do for it? should I cut it off and hope I can start a new one??

What do you mean by "doesn't look normal"? You will probably need to give a little more info for anyone to be able to give you good advise. Describe what doesn't look normal. Does the plant seem in good health? How big is the pumpkin?

if the stem is soft then its probably gone. yes you better hope theres another young pumpkin hiding somewhere cause if the stems gone so is the pumpkin. you stated it had stopped growing . that would indicate shes all done.

Pap, I will check the stem for softness tomorrow. If it is soft should I cut it off or just let it go as long as I can? It is at least 50plus lbs. It does not appear to have put on any weight recently. My goal is only 100lbs for a pumpkin this year. Last year I grew a 75 pounder. Which is pretty small in your circles.
Hoots dirt, I will e-mail you a picture of the stem. The plant it self is very healhly. The picture is out the 2nd story of our house.
