i have got what looks like green tomatoes growing on my potato vines,they come from a shoot right under the potato flower blooms, some are as large as a half dollar and green as green maters i had this last year also so question is what are they and why do they grow on potatoes.variety is red pontiac

Making seeds. Potatoes can sometimes make seed fruits. Easiest propagation is by the tubers... but.

Those are called Potato Fruit, those contain Potato Seed, they are not edible. There is a way to harcest the seeds and grow your tators from them, but it a bit hard to do.

If you use the tuber to propagate you know what you're going to get. You plant seed, you have no idea what the plant or tubers will be like....

I tried growing a potato plant from seed this year, started it same time as my tomatoes. It grew so agonizingly slow though. If you try growing from seed I'd say start them the same time you would start giant onions (early January).
