Hi fellow growers! Any advice on what to do with the remaining flower petals on my pollinated pumpkins after I take the zip tie off them....? Peal them back and remove, leaving only the actual lobes? Thanks and good luck to all. Rooster

Instead of zip ties I use just plain old cotton string. I just let the petals rot away and don't worry about them. that is waht nature does without our help. When the pumpkin is bigger you can clean it up if you want. I just try to be very careful about damaging the blossom until after it is weighed.

I do what Iowegian does...let them fall off naturally.

At 5:00 PM the night of pollinating....I cut the tie or twisty off letting air in......
Then after they dry like paper..in a few days....I peel them off.....carefully........

definately do as the wiz says. a day or two after pollination get the petals off. do not let it rot on the lobes.

I open the flower and peel the pedals off (like the males when I pollinate) a day or two after pollinating. If you leave the pedals tied, you very well could get mold!
