Dollar store, thrift store, rummage sale, walmart... cheap white plastic coat hangers.

Cut at shoulder where they have a little flare then go to the hook, then cut in exact middle of bottom (usually an injection button or circle there). Carefully cut any little hooks off and be careful of anything sharp there when you ram them in. If your ground is well watered and properly loose, you can hold the two ends together a little by squeeze and ram the ends in far enough.

White is the best color, you can see them easily! I am going through them like... nevermind.

I use 4x4's or 8x8's beam lumber(treated), like you use in making a barn or building a frame on a house.
Get some post hole diggers or someone who owns a back hoe and dig a hole about 3 ft down next to the vine's(be careful not to nick main vine when digging) after you get the holes dug set your posts in a 'X' over top of the vine to where the vine stays down, then get someone to hold the posts and set them with concrete, then let dry for 24 hrs or until concrete sets. You will find by doing it this way your vines will never come up. this way you wont have to worry about finding the right color hanger or any type injector buttons to your ram .

Hope this helps.

12345,,, if you dont have back hoe, Kpatch will probably rent you out his for 75 bucks a hour,,,lol.

Here's another thing you can use besides the white coat hangers that I will definitely use next year instead.....

''DAVE STELTS THE Ohio Valley G.P.G. & G.P.C.''

Paint sticks are by far the best tie down stake I have used (stole the idea from Jerry Rose).

Flat face so they don't wear holes in the vines on windy days. They make nice pollination markers when teamed with a sharpie. They break down easily in the soil if you miss them when pulling your plants.

You can buy a case of 1,000 for about $35 - $45 from a big box hardware stores and last 2-3 years before reorder(better order now they only order every quarter around me). If you are really good you can shmooze a case for free.

''pumpkin kid huntsburg,ohio''

Been using paint sticks for years like dave said serve multiple applications and i never pull them up as they just degrade into soil.I bought a case last year for 30 bucks and have enough for 3 years .

Shish kabob skewers, 1 dollar (or so) for 100,, or I just take a staple gun and staple it down.

I use snowballs,,roll um up however big you need and position over the renegade vine, IF they melt it's kinda like drip irrigation ;-)

I am being death on the local supply of cheap white plastic coat hangers this year. Never have enough.

I don't like to use skewers or bamboo sticks because... I occasionally take a fall and I really hate landing on sharp stuff. I will use bamboo sticks when trying to land a vine or something like that but as soon as I can, I go to the coat hanger corners. If I fall on them I can sever or severely crush vine (but it is in danger anyway if I fall on it, of being paste)but I won't get impaled.

If you don't have feet/legs/balance issues, skewers are cheaper and do biodegrade. I hate picking corners in the fall but at least I can see them (white)
